Two of Bastrop’s easiest music nights land back to back: the Farm Street Opry on Thursday, Nov. 5, and Walkin’ the Line, a Johnny Cash tribute, on Friday, Nov. 6, and Saturday, Nov. 7. Both are right in town, and both make a good first taste of Bastrop if you are thinking about moving here.

What is the Farm Street Opry?

It is a family-friendly music show with local Texas talent and special guests, held on the first Thursday of each month. The city’s listing shows:

  • Admission: $7.50, and children 10 and under are free
  • Doors: 5:30 p.m.
  • Concessions: available, and the event is non-alcoholic

The Explore Bastrop County calendar lists the Nov. 5 show from 7 to 9:30 p.m.

What is Walkin’ the Line?

Bennie Wheels and Walkin’ the Line is a live tribute to Johnny Cash and the Tennessee Three. The Opera House says the show opens with the “boom-chicka-boom” train beat and runs through Cash’s greatest hits.

A few things to know before you buy:

  • Everyone needs a ticket, regardless of age.
  • Children under 3 are not admitted.
  • Friday’s start time: the Opera House page lists both 6:30 and 7:30 p.m., and the county calendar lists 7:30 p.m. Go by what your ticket says.

Tickets are sold through the Opera House website, which is also the place to check prices.

What else can you do that Saturday?

Make a day of it. The Bastrop 1832 Farmers Market runs Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 1302 Chestnut St., between the Convention Center and the Lost Pines Art Center. Our November events roundup has the rest of the month, and our Things to Do guide has more year-round ideas.
