New to Bastrop? How to Set Up City Utilities

To start City of Bastrop utilities, fill out the city’s online application and email your ID and proof of ownership or lease. Then expect to pay a $200 electric deposit and a $75 water deposit, and allow up to 48 business hours for processing. Start a few days before move-in if you can.

These steps come from the City of Bastrop utilities page. Not every Bastrop address is on city service, so check that first.

Are you on city utilities or something else?

It depends on your address. Inside much of the city, Bastrop runs its own electric, water and wastewater service. Outside the city, you may have Bluebonnet Electric Cooperative, Aqua Water Supply Corporation, a MUD or a private well. Our Moving to Bastrop guide breaks it down, or ask us about a specific address.

What do you need to apply?

The application must be in the account holder’s legal name, and you need to send:

  • A valid ID, such as a driver’s license, passport or military ID
  • Proof of ownership or lease, such as a settlement statement, deed or a lease listing all tenants over 18

Email them to [email protected]. The city warns that missing documents will result in service being denied.

How much does it cost to start service?

Fee Amount
New application for service $50 (billed)
Electric deposit $200
Water deposit $75
Transfer of service $20

After you send your documents and application, the city emails you to call and pay. You then get an information packet with your account number, payment portal setup and solid waste details.

When are bills due?

  • Due: the 1st through the 15th of each month
  • Late: a 10% penalty after the 15th
  • Disconnection: unpaid balances after the 25th may be cut off

The city counts a payment when it is received, not by the postmark. So mail it early or use the portal. Rates are set by city ordinance and can change during the fiscal year.

How does trash and recycling work?

Your city bill covers water, wastewater, solid waste, night light and electric charges. The city lists Texas Disposal Systems as the provider, and its Waste Wizard tool shows your pickup dates and route. Recycling includes cardboard, clean paper, plastic, aluminum, tin and glass.

Where do you go with questions?

The utilities lobby and drive-thru are at 600 Spring St., open Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Call (512) 332-8830, which also takes after-hours emergency calls.
